Wiring in a volt meter to keep an eye on battery

So, after sorting out the reg rec wiring (direct to the battery, new crimped and soldered connectors etc) i'd like to keep an eye on the voltage so want to fit a small led volt meter somewhere near the clocks.

I want it to be a switched feed that only gets power when the ignition is on.

Is there anywhere up the front of the bike where i can take a switched feed from? im a bit green when it comes to electrics.

Kill switch?

That's part of the switched ignition, and where I'm putting my voltage meter :peace:

Connect into the black wire from the kill switch so you can monitor even with the KS activated. The black/white is the supply to the Igniter and coils.

I'd also err on the side of caution and put something like a 50mA fuse inline with it too.

Try this link, got one on my bike and they are good quality and reliable. I got the 5mm one. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/a-12v-LED-Bat ... 2308f39a72

i wired a cigarette lighter socket to the battery, fixed under the screen and have one of these in there for £3 (fully insert it when i want to see the voltage)

i think it's useful as the electrics are often a source of issues

(can obviously charge your phone/satnav instead as well then)

I wired a watercraft cigarette lighter under the rear seat so I could run satnav and phone charger, never thought of using a volt meter food for thought though.
