how easy is it to convert the fan to be activated by a on off switch, needing to get it sorted as unable to do any city riding at all now without the temp shooting right up and bubbling the coolant.

It's pretty easy. Just take a cable from temp sender on the left hand side of the lower rad. Connect it to your switch, and the other terminal of your switch to earth.

Does the fan turn or at all? Or do you just want to turn it on manually when you want?

I've never heard it working so could be the fan itself, i'll check it when I go back home next week hopefuly it still works but just not getting a signal to turn on when its hot, would I need to add abit more to the wiring as i'm wanting to have the switch on the top yoke for ease to get to.

Fix the problem properly... on/off switch is not the solution really..

clean rads, working temp switch and working fan = sorted!

it depends on time, and how much I have left in funds to sort her out properly, I've only done light work on the NC30 so will need some guidance on how to do the work.

Do it properly. A working fan won't cool a blocked rad. I tried the lazy fix, and it just doesn't work. 99 pound Chinese rads where my budget solution.

I'll sort the radiator system out but how would you go about sorting the temp switch i'm terrible with electrics, my last bike was a Supermoto so hardly anything to go wrong but allot to tune mechanically.

Check the fan is working correctly first - it really is simple.....

Find the wire attached to the fan thermo switch on the bottom (lh?) corner of the rad.

With the ignition on, short the wire to a good earth (clean engine/frame bole casting etc) - the fan should work.
If not, spin the fan by hand to ensure it spins freely, make sure the fan fuse has not blown/replace.

Short the wire again, the fan should work. If not check power supply to fan/duff fan motor (unlikely).

If the fan works as above, do the same but shorting the wire to a clean bolt etc on the radiator, if the fan doesn't work (& did when shorted to engine/frame) you have a bad earth from radiator to frame.
Repair or replace.

Virtually all fan problems are stuck fan/blown fuse or a bad rad to frame earth.

If the fan comes on when shorted to the rad but not in use & hot, the thermo switch is duff.

Once you have a working fan, clean the (lower) rad, I have power washed mine with great success but the rad won't survive if it's rotten (but then it's knackered anyway!

I've just fitted an override switch, not difficult at all thermo switch opens to earth, so I've ran a switch to earth and switched 12v from the coil live fire, So only works when ignition is on, I also used a illuminated switch to indicate the fan is overridden
