Hi all,recently overhauled rear brake caliper on my nc35.. New pistons and seal but it's still not that good,I use the back brake quite a bit is there any other caliper that will fit and improve the braking!!! Cheers ears!!

TBH, that's pretty much what they are like. I did much the same on mine a few years back because I was concerned about the lack of apparent braking, but I think that's partly down the fact that there's not such a dramatic weight transfer effect when you hit the rear brake. I watched mine tested on a brake machine for the MOT last year, and my 'crappy' rear brake stuck out nearly as much brake force as the front! Did you overhaul the master cylinder as well as the caliper? There might be some gains to be had there, you never know....

Personally I don't think there's any point in upgrading the rear.

The front do all the stopping anyway. I just use the rear for slow speed control, and an over-powered brake set-up would surely be pointless when all it'd do is lock the back wheel.

It's crap and is only good for low speed stability.

There is one reason for upgrading the rear brake, and that is to lose unsprung weight. The standard rear brake, inc pads and fluid (I just weighed mine), weighs about 780g. An ISR 2 piston brake weighs about 500g, and if that's not enough the lightweight version weighs 240g. Factor in a custom bracket, and further weight savings from using a custom aluminium disc, if you are brave...

Incidentally, the rear brake is very useful for steep descents on the loose or wet surfaces commonplace in Thailand and, I dare say, in South Wales. :-)

Unless you're riding an RC213, does a couple of hundred unsprung grams on the rear axle actually make any difference? Cheaper and easiest to not have lunch, surely?

No compatible calipers from other models. Your best bet is to flush the line, bleed with new fluid and fit new Honda (nissin brand) pads.

All a more powerful caliper will do is lock the wheel more easily, it's the geometry and weight (centre of gravity) of the bike at play here.
