Bit of trouble

Having a frustrating time with my 3tj.

a month or two ago it stated running quite badly and ended up no starting, at that point i was low on money and had to buy a car and popped it in the shed and thats where she lay for a month or so.

Having recently got it out i've checked and cleaned the carbs = all good
Checked fuel pump is working = all good
Got replacement inlet rubbers (originals where cracked badly)
checked the ht leads and plugs, finding one very loose so i cut it down a little and fixed it back on nice and tight.
Haven't got round to the plugs yet but last time i checked they were ok, it spins on the starter but doesnt really fire, only here and there.

Tomorrow im going to check the spark on all the plugs, just wondering what else to look for, it seems like the valve clearances are losing compression resulting in it not wanting to start but the valve clearances were done no more that a year or two ago and its only done 2-3000 miles since they were done.

IM currently at a loss so help me out yeah?

Could be talking out my ear because I dont know how the timing is set / works. But sounds like the timing could be out or points gap is wrong. I am talking non injection car experience here but largely an engine is an engine

hmm possibly but it had run ok up until recently, if the timing was out it would be running badly from the moment the clearances were done.

Change the plugs first even if the look OK and you get a spark, they can break down under load.
Checdon't move.e exup val a opens and closes - take the silver cover off and see if it moves when the ignition is turned on. Also have a look the pulley and check the two little tounges are each side of the hole.

Tank an air box off, use some jump leads to a car battery or another running bike. Put a good squirt of carb cleaner down the carb intakes choke on and see if it fires up. If it does the problem is fuel.

Unlikely to be points they don't have them. Timing is unlikely too, its taken off the flywheel which dont
