Poor fuel tank range

Hi guys,

I'm struggling to hit 150km's before having to switch to reserve on my RVF400, and even when i switch to reserve the bike doesn't get the fuel fast enough if you know what i mean. It'll end up cutting out and i'll have to keep pumping and trying to start the bike for it to run on reserve. I have a moriwaki full race exhaust system.

I just don't understand why i keep cutting out around 130-150 :/

Thanks

Check the fuel hose. I had something similar and found it was kinked. My bike would run onto reserve early, take a while to pick back up after running onto reserve, and well before it ran dry it would splutter like it was running onto reserve again.

Maybe fuel hose is kinked or aftermarket and routed wongly.

you have a blocked breather, bad vaccum hose / diaphram / blocked tap or a fuel filter installed?

Have you opened the tank when it doesnt flow anymore and had a look to see how much is there?

Next time it happens, instead of keep trying to start it, crank it for a few seconds and then wait a minute or two for the fuel to fill up the carbs.

If you can shine a torch into the tank have a look at the filter in the tank.

Yep, it's just a basic plastic gauze filter on top of the fuel tap (brown bit below) to stop debris entering the carbs. There are also filters of a similar gauge on each of the 4 carbs.
