Hi all

I was riding the other day (at night conveniently) and my headlights cut out. I flicked on high beam and that worked. But flicking back to dipped beam gives me nothing.

When left overnight they will come on as normal but after a few seconds they die.

I've had a look at all the obvious wiring I can see and nothing is jumping out as being amiss.

Does anyone recognise this problem? Any advice would be great before I go digging the loom out to trace it all.

do a search mate, common problem on rvf's/import nc30's where people put the UK H4 bulbs in (as opposed to the jap H4s's) and destroy the left hand switchgear. I have just had to order a new left hand switch gear, cheapest in UK was David Silvers at £120 but currently sold out, there is a second hand one on ebay at the mo but it has been listed before so there is no guarantee it is working.

So yeah basically it should be an easy fix but due to the discontinued parts and the high demand for them as it is a common problem, it's quite expensive to sort. I ordered one from the US David Silvers site earlier and a friend over there is posting it to the UK for me, will work out at about £80 if i manage to scrape though import duty.

Sorry to disappoint you, I wish i could say it was a cheap fix!

If high wattage headlight bulbs without a relay has result in a damaged handle bar switch, you could try repairing same.

Usually the excessive current overheats the switch contacts and melts the plastic holder. A cheap fix might be to rebuild the damaged plastic with epoxy and clean up the contacts, does not cost anything to try.

Remember if you get a new switch or fix the old one, fit a relay if using high wattage bulbs.
