hey guys, I changed the brake fluid reservoir on my 35 to a mini tyga one & need topping up. My mechanic said they use motul 3 & 4 on street bikes but i forgot to mention that i've got 03 CBR600 calipers on my 35.

do i still use the dot 3&4? what brake fluid do you guys use?

& my speedo stopped working a few weeks ago, i've read it's most likely the speedo drive?

where do i get this from? btw i'm in OZ. & how much? also is it simple to change?

also this is probably a stupid question but want to make sure about checking oil.
Is it normal for the oil level to be really low when the engine is cold? It's fine when warm but had me a bit worried.

thanks

Any DOT 3 or 4 will do regardless of calipers, i think your find it hard to find a shop selling anything but DOT 4 or 5

Speedo drive is plastic and sits over the bolt holding the front sprocket on, remove the sprocket cover to check it.

Do you not have honda dealers in OZ?

Oil level should be higher when cold as it has all drained into the sump form up the top of the motor..

So - are you measuring it right?

Your oil sounds backwards as Mark has said.

Correct way to check oil level.

1. Cold bike.
2. Put the bike on a level flat surface and take it off the side-stand and hold the bike upright and centre.
3. Start and run the bike for 3 minutes to fully circulate oil.
4. Unscrew dipstick and wipe clean.
5. Rest on the hole (do not thread in) and withdraw and note mark. Oil should be at max level.

the engine should be warmed through before checking the level, ideally give it a 10 minute ride (3mins at tick over isnt nearly enough). you then need to switch off the engine and let the oil drain and settle in the sump (if you measure straight away it will be low due to lots of oil sitting high in the engine). 5 minutes should be fine. Then support the bike in an upright position, not on the side stand, and insert the dipstick. DO NOT SCREW THE DIPSTICK IN!

The oil level will be higher when hot if measured correctly due to expansion. one thing you definitely dont want to do is over fill with oil as this can cause damage due to too high pressures. In fact, race teams who are able to constantly check and adjust their oil levels usually try to keep as close to the mid point as possible.

Basically, if your oil level is at the max when cold, then by the time your engine has warmed it will be far too high........ and, BANG!
