Rear pipe header connection is wobbly

Hi all,

I have an Ethos full race system on my NC30. It was there when I got it. The rear headers are on well, but the ethos pipes as they come from the join with the header rattle around like crazy - there is a lot of movement there.

I can also see that exhaust is leaking there and hitting the swingarm - the swingarm there is sooty.

I see from the parts schematic there is supposed to be a washer in there - at least for the stock system anyways.

Here is what mine look like:

Look like eaten copper washers in there.

And here is the end of the pipes:

So, do I just need new washers in there? They'd need to be pretty fleshy to take up the amount of rattle that has been there.

Many thanks,

Greg.

You just need 2 new gaskets from the looks pal should sort it. Don't buy the cheap eBay 1s they crush down to nothing

Even with no gaskets in there it shouldn't rattle about, that's no reason not use gaskets though. Get some gaskets and tighten it up properly

Sounds like the clamp nuts have come slack or the washers have bedded in leaving slack in the system
As said remove & replace the copper washers & nip back up.

Thanks all,

I did tighten 'er up but still wobbly, hence the reason I took it apart. But .. sounds like new gaskets are the go then!

I'll get some ordered tomorrow.

Thanks again.

Greg.

Surely thats an Ethos 1/2 system.

The full ethos system does away with the stubby mainfold you have pictured and bolts right into the head. (notice the LACK of metal stubby flange plate)

Image

Like so.

The ethos 1/2 system uses the rear stubby and has the flange plate to bolt it to the rear headers.

They are crush washers in the stubby part.. get new ones and don't overtighten. You want to crush them up but not flatten them to a pancake. Try the bike after a few turns of tightening to check for leaks. (hand over the end-can will help)

Yep, I guess then it is the 1/2 system as you say. I am not wise in the ways of ethos, but it does use the stubby part and have the flange plate. Thanks for the clarification. I was just echoing what I was told when I bought it.
