Assembling 2 sets of N (later type forks) and both came apart the same way, but according to the microfiche they shoudl be differnet.
http://images.cmsnl.com/img/partslists/ ... 0_c8b1.gif
bigger picture here shows part 4, a metal washer above and below the metal spacer.
Both sets of forks I have had the metal washers above and below the spring?
I assume the microfiche is correct and both sets of forks were assembled wrong but id like to check before i fill them up.

I would assume them to both be the same?
You sure the micro isnt for 2 types of forks on one sheet?

I think youve missunderstood the question.
The microfiche is only for one type of fork, the later type NC30.
While I doubt that the Honda fiche is wrong I was curious as to why two different sets of forks I have here are assembled differently to the fiche (perhaps they are just both wrong, or maybe there was a different reason for doing so)
If you look at the fiche you can see the metal spacer tube (part 3) and it has a washer (part 4) on either side of it.
Both sets of forks I have apart have both the washers (part 4) but instead of them being either end of the metal spacer they are either end of the main spring.

Ok. The guy came round and he brought the K type fork. Bugger will now have to either bite the bullet and buy new stanchions or get mine rechromed! I do still have one later type stanchion still assembled with the top nut on etc. so will disassemble it tomorrow so watch this space!

As far as i remember the fiche is correct, rebuilt my later type forks back in march and the washers where at both ends of the spacer tube AFAIK.

Wow nice one, im really surprised you got the fork apart for me!
I didnt think the fiche would be wrong so I put it back the fiche way before I saw this, but I really appreciate you checking.
Unless somebody knows of a reason why mine were assembled wrong (ie a positive way of doing that) besides the fact it was just a cockup then please let me know.
PS.
If you want to get the springs and everything off, unwind the big fork cap off the smaller inner section.. (screw the preload all the way in) dont unscrew the middle bit from the cartridge and remove the top as a complete unit, if you do you can loose the calibration of the fork adjuster (brass screw)
