does anyone know if the front end from an fzr1000 (usd forks) are a straight swap, i'm sure i read somewhere it is but want to make sure before i buy a doner bike cheap.

If the stems are the same length, then yes (or as 'yes' at it can be given that you want to put forks from a different bike into yours!) The bearings are the same, it's just the stem length that might be the issue and I haven't had one of those apart (yet...)

You can weld the 400 stem into the 1000 bottom yoke

Not if the 1000 yoke is aluminium* and the 400 stem is steel...

FZR 1000 USD slips right in.



The YZF750 fork needs the stem swapping around.

The FZR1000 is a steel bottom yoke and stem.

YZF has an alu bottom yoke and steel stem.

With the FZR1000 USD you'll need to add some lockstops. You can see my lockstops here, two cheap doorstoppers. You don't need them with a YZF USD as the lockstops line up.

Thanks, what about the length, are they the same as the 400 forks or near enough to adjust in the yokes?

The FZR1000 USD you can't simply stick the legs a little more through the yokes, since the clipons rest on a ticker part of the forks. If you want them too stick through you need too turn down the outer tube of the fork. I found that my 400 steered a little slower with the 1000 fork, but with a 3cm rise in the bak we were back too normal.

The YZF forks are slightly shorter and are mounted flush with the yokes.
