Starting your NC30 from Cold (air temp + engine cold)

Hello there; I have a question! - I have used the search function and cant find anything already posted relating to this (possibly because its a stupid question, apologies if it is)
I have an NC30 that normally starts first time every time on the button, however the last few mornings before work when its been rather chilly (8C ish) it has struggled to start (by that I mean it only JUST starts when on the choke, with me having to hold the ignition button for a little longer than normal) - I have no problems when the outside temp has gone up a bit (i.e when I finish work at 5 it starts first time again). It is kept in a non-heated garage.
Is this normal? Is there anything I can do to 'encourage' it to start better first time in the cold?
I tried apologizing for getting it up so early, sweet-talking it and giving it a hug however I fear this will only work for a few more days before the neighbors realize what I am doing and I am taken away by men in white coats.
