track bike upgrade : What else ???

Hi everybody,

I finally ran my bike all the season in a french classi bike championship after 1 year of leaning checking and tuning the bike.
The carbs setup was done with a race can but full stock air box, filter and carbs. the bike ran perfectly all the season, either with race(race) an or with stock exhaust (training days). Just a loose of power over 11000 with the standard exhaust (supposed normal, right).
For this winter i am looking for improving its performance:

1. The bike is over heating after 20min race (110 deg without mudguard, more with). I looking for new one with goeff, if available, or i want to adapt an another one. Some tips?

2. I want to swap the battery for Li-ion, and shorten the subframe to gain weight. Is it interesting to put off the alternator and run only with the battery. Does it improve the engine behaviour?

3. I know that it s a hot point on the forum, but again, how much an i obtain to put HRC simple config: HRC jetting kit plus air scoop plus short boots. ratio power/cost ? i have spare carbs, so i can test both solutions. do i absolutly need other stuff with hrc carbs: fuel tap bypass, iridium sparkplugs.

Thanks a lot for your advice.

Cheers

baptiste

Hey,

You should piss me off when I write English like a monkey... I posted at the office and not clear minded

For 2012, i did only a carbs balance with stock air box filter and race can

About the part 2, I was talking about generator and fly wheel to remove to gain some hp. And swap the lead battery for Li-ion.

About the part 3, as i can read many different advice, i would be sure that HRC mods are good for track bike.

Thanks.

Can possibly help you with 1 and 2 here.

1. Have you got original radiators/are they very dirty? If so a clean should help. Plus if you have a fan, remove it.

2. Removing the flywheel will not give you more HP, it will only let the engine rev up faster but decrease engine braking. Lithium ion battery would be best without the generator.

3. I am sure someone else on here will be able to help a lot more than I could.

I ran my racebike with standard rads that were very clean, only with water and a cut down mudguard - it never overheated but this is England!!

Running without generator and flywheel is a great idea - it pulls harder like you have changed the sprockets. Do it! It is free...and can easily be put back if you don't get on with it. I set my idle to 3k revs anyways.

3: My bike ran totally standard carbs, airbox and honda filter and I preferred it so much over my road bike with open RVF carbs and all that crap... I never made open carbs work properly and it was a pain in the arse. Fitting an HRC air tray is a good idea. If you have the time on a dyno then go mad and fit the open carbs setting..but for me, I could not be arsed and to be fair, I never really missed it.

Thanks a lot men for your help,

i will keep my carbs first and try to improve everything else

We are organizing a new championship for the next year which gather 400 4T and 250 2T from '85 to '95.
I guess my vfr and I will be strong enough to fight RS250, RGV 250 or ZXR 400...
