Hi guys, i have just bought a later Tank (1995 ish) for my superfour, it fits perfectly.

But, it has a fuel sender! Could i source some later clocks and fit them for the fuel guage?

Or another solution, could i buy a generic guage from ebay, wire it u and mount it?

Does it have a reserve tap?

Fuel gauges are for girls, and frequently lie or break down on you. I would ignore it myself.

I'm no expert but I'm not sure it's as straight forward as doing an instrument swap. Sounds like you have an FII with the narrow instrument set as opposed to the FIII's which have the wider-set instruments with fuel gauge. From what I can determine, you will need to upgrade the headstock top plate (if that's possible) because the shape where the instruments butt up to the top plate has a different shape between FII's and FIII's.

And here's a picture:

UPDATE: Actually, on further research, instrument differences does not look like it was necessarily an FII/FIII thing as I notice that the FIII Version R's had instruments sans fuel gauge and notice that some later model FII's (circa 96-97) have fuel gauges, so maybe the addition of the fuel gauge was a change introduced to both FII's and FIII's around the same time the Version S was introduced in 1996. I'm still not 100% on this. Does anyone else know when the fuel gauges were introduced?

you'll have to change the top yoke too, the later one's are bolted on differently. i know this as i have ordered the wrong clocks thinking i needed the one with the fuel gauge, because the tank has one :( . now in on the hunt for a top yoke
