How to Improve NC29 Braking?

Have fitted braided hoses so far but they still are not great. The calipers have been stripped and rebuilt so I know they are fine.

Anybody care to share experiences of brake pads they have used?

Are there any aftermarket master cylinders and or levers that can improve matters when used with standard calipers.

Also, does anybody know if NC23 and 29 calipers are the same?

Thanks awfully for any responses - am in the middle of a massive rebuild project and am a bit of a mechanical numpty!

Not to sound facetious, but have you ridden it since you fitted the braided lines?

Worth rebuilding the std master cylinder too.

I run OE pads with braided lines and rebuilt std calipers/master cylinder on my race bike, and on slicks it's easy enough for me to get the back wheel in the air under hard braking and I'm not that fast a rider on track. (probably BECAUSE I'm braking so hard...) It gives good feel, doesn't bite too hard (I don't like that), and plenty of braking power. I don't lack confidence under brakes.

Give your pads and discs a light scuffing just in case they are glazed too.

HH sintered (or carbon Lorraine?) pads are 1 of the best you can get.. + braided lines= excellent breaking...

apparently the cbr1000rr radial master cylinder is the go,seen a few fitted to the race 400's

Agree with stimpy, I have a radial master cylinder fitted (from a GSXR750 K4, but still NISSIN) Goodridge braided lines together with EBC discs and EBC HH pads and I can brake with just one finger!!! Just did PBs 90's Trackday at Cadwell Park on Tuesday and even downhill to Mansfields one finger gives me superb control. I've even had to stop using the back brake as it was hopping so much as the rear wheel was barely in contact under heavy braking. Upshot of this is that I can concentrate on body position on the approach to corners. Oh I'm also using VFR400 4-pot callipers on NC30 fork sliders.

One finger braking is too powerful for my preference. I like to use 3 fingers.

It's also a theory the girls like. :o

Ive got a little project underway on my mate's NC23 - the same thing has dramaticaly improved the wet and dry braking on my NC24 - and also looks Rather Cool!

Total cost - 2 hours, £2.... :?

Metal bar through the front wheel? about £2 aswell.

I find that tends to stop things pretty quick..... :lol:


Whats the difference with using a radial master cylinder? + anyone know what would fit the NC23?

Oh ho ho, so 'e's building up the 29 as well as fixing the 23 eh? ;)

Can't wait to see the results. Dunno if you've got it, but if you get stuck putting together the 29 I have the workshop manual, and can print you another copy (and put it in nice folders pinched from work) if you want a hard copy. :D

Now if I could just find someone willing to sell me some damned tyres....
