hi guys, bought an fzr400 and its got a 33bhp restrictor kit fitted and i want to remove it. however i have no idea what the restrictor kit is, i know it restricts flow but im not an experienced mechanic so need a step by step guide of how to go about removing it once i know what im looking for.

i have heard i have to remove the carbs and then i should see what i need to remove (some washers right?)

if i remove the carbs do they sit on a gasket of some sort? if so i would need to know where to get a new gasket from

hi there im not to sure what model you have but ill give you a good idea.

1. remove both seats
2. remove bolts that hold tank cover on 5 or 6 depending on model. The bolts around the fuel cap there are only 2 that need removing and they are the bolts either side of the bolt thats at the back. ( i hope that make sense)
3. remove petrol cap with key and then carefully remove tank cover and put somewhere safe.
4. Look between the pertol tank and carburetors and youll see 4 jubilee clips that go around the carb inlets.
5. using a long reach philips screw driver loosen all the bolts of and then pull the airbox of.
6. there are a couple of pipes attached to the airbox but these will just pull off
7.you should now be able to see the jubille clips around the other side of the carbs undo these and then carefully pull the carbs of
8. you should see the big washers in the rubber carb mount just wip them out and repeat the above in reverse order.

PS the idle may need adjusting so run up with airbox of ans its a pain to get to on.

the carb rubbers can go a bit hard and make it difficult to get on, but a bit of patience and maybe some wigglin should do it!

just removed the restrictor kit!!
tho its p1ss1ng down with rain so cant test it out

so what do i do now? leave the airbox off, start it up and let it get warm then i may need to adjust the idling?

Are you looking to sell the restrictor kit? I'm looking for one.

its just 4 washers with holes drilled in them. im sure u could buy the kit for next to no money at all. a garage would probably not charge u the cost of the washers and just make their money on the labour to fit the kit.

sorry mate it's been a busy day just fit the air box back on get the engine warm and adjust to suite may not need any adjustment

Hi, how did the bike run with the restrictor kit on? Did it still rev all the way up to 15k? I have an issue with mine not revving past 8k (which, on a dyno, would read about 20bhp from what i recall).
