I still have problems with my bike lurching at very low speeds.. 0-20mph its as if i am open/shut/open/shut etc the throttle.. which i am not.
sooo.. i fitted new rear wheel cush drives-- no change
was told by several people that the carbs are sucking air & replace the carb to head rubbers-- no change!
NOW i am being told that inside the clutch/basket is a cush drive that maybe worn, does anyone know what this looks like? been told to remove clutch cover, get a hold of the clutch and check for ANY free play rotational wise. should be none. if there is.. then the cush drives gone....
got manual/fishes out and now wondering what this cush drive is...
on the microfiche is it NUMBER 1?
on manual RHS pic with arrows pointed at it?

What is the condition and adjustment of the chain?
Have you got the throttle cables adjusted nicely?

Just thinking of things before you get really involved.

Hi is this a recent problem for you or since you got the bike as these small 400"s do need a few rev"s at low speed to run smooth my nc31 smooths out about 3000rpm so perhaps you are running in to high a gear for such a slow speed all the best rick

The part you mention is called a sprocket pump in the fiche. There are two types depending on serial number. Im might br talking outa my arse but when in gear and within the problem range try pulling the clutch in just enough to take the slack up, do you feel any pulsing??

Does sound like a fuelling problem though. Checked your choke.

carbs been off the bike, cables checked, new head rubbers, even put corrosive carb/fuel cleaner thru.. on a bike used daily i did doubt the last one would do a thing!.
when it "lurches" i have always said that the fueling seems fine. i started with rear wheel cush drives as it seemed as if the rear wheel was playing catch up, replaced with new from honda... no change.

just been told that the clutch cush drives are built in to number 2 of the fishe.. what looks like the whole clutch basket its self.. if so.. fooking great!

been told to whip off clutch cover, get a hold of the clutch basket and see if there is any rotary play, there should be NONE... if there is.. cush drives buggered..
had clutch cover off a year ago doing generator so i know the gasket should be ok for 2nd round!

Hey LP the Cush drive you are talking about isn't in the pic, the clutch basket is fitted to a huge sprocket there are springs that take up the force that goes through the clutch. These springs can only be seen when the clutch basket is removed, I can text you a pic of the rear of the clutch basket if you need as I have a couple of nc23 ones in the garage.

its all built in to the clutch basket, so if buggered; will have to replace the whole clutch basket.
havnt had a chance to "test" for play yet. & by the looks of it.. it'll be a while too!

yeah any pics are worth looking at, just dont know if NC23 will be the same as NC29?
i did email GF a couple of days ago, not had a reply yet......?

Hey LP I did a google search, this link is a pic of the clutch Cush drive of a different bike but is near identicle to the nc29/23 setup you will be able to see that if the springs are damaged or tired how the clutch will play up, hope it helps. http://i217.photobucket.com/albums/cc24 ... prings.jpg

just thinking on how i am gong to do the check with out spending money as start new job today & back on monthly pay, hence it not being "looked at" for a while!
i know people are going to cringe.. but i know the engine oil has to come out. so clean container & put it back in once checks done & top up any lost oil.
i had the side cover off a year ago to fit a new generator so i know the gasket should be good + a bit of sealant to help. will replace that end of month/when/if i have to do the other.
