Does anyone know the inside diameter of the spring on a BMW s1000rr shock?

I've ordered one and looking for an uprated spring (fat bastard rate!) to fit for this weekend.

Any information would be great. I need the free length (I think 175mm?), the inside diameter (I believe 2.25"?) and an approximate spring weight/rate for 105kg rider.

Any help would be much appreciated, and paid for in tea!!

Speak to Ricky, he's already brought a spring for his bmw shock @ 800lb from demon tweeks for less than £35.

hi i use d.faulkner springs (01243 543049) for all my shocks . most sizes and rates stocked and one off specials. j

Im yet to dismantle mine however the spring i ordered was a

2.25" int dia
7" Free Length
800 lbs

I weigh between 10-12st for a guide on the spring size im a fatty at the min but the diet starts as soon as i return to work after my paternity leave :D

I've ordered a 850lb spring from Demon Tweeks and will try anf get everything fitted tomorrow evening in time for a trackday on Saturday...... que an evening full of hammering and swearing!!

Stu, so how did the BMW shock perform at the track day? Really keen to hear whether it's a worthwhile mod for my trackbike.

The shock was amazing!!!

Although I don't have much to compare it to. I could take everyone on the twistys and was never overtaken on any corners, although the 1.5 mile staight saw the big bikes eat me up! - but I soon had them again :)

I think it's a very worth while mod, but I had to do a little more 'modification' that I was expecting. The shock didn't fit in the top shock mount so a bit of grinding was required.......I took approx 2mm of the shim, then had to very carefully shave a mm off both the top of the shock, and off the shock mount. A mount on the frame required a couple of mm taking off too but nothing drastic. It took about 2 hours to fit in total.

All in all it cost me around £150 for the shock, spring, spring compressor and express delivery, as I was in a bit of a rush to get the bike ready for the track on Saturday. Whether it would be better to save up a bit more and get a 'proper' shock such as a Nitron I'm not sure. But I am very, very happy with the bike as it is now!

The way I see it is that you'll never get a 400 fast in a stright line, so forks, shock and brakes are the way to go. I've got the SP-1 front brakes, stiffened fork springs and the 1000rr shock - although now I need a bit more damping in the front end so a havier weight oil is required.

I'll happily answer any questions if you have anything specific......unfiortunately I was in too much of a hurry to get the shock in to think about documenting with photos.

Sounds like a promising mod, especially compared to the standard shock.

Regarding modifications to the actual shock, have you only installed the heavier spring, it hasn't been revalved?

Yes I've only installed the heavier spring. I went for an 850lb Faulkner spring as I'm a fat bastard at 105kgs. I have the spring preload set pretty close to the top so you'd want a softer spring for a regular build
