I know this has been covered a bit on here, but I could really do with some help on this, as im not getting anywhere.

How does anyone set their float heights? as my needle valves are clear and my front left carb is still overflowing with fuel. Ive checked and set the height to 12.5mm (so I think) but Ive no idea if the carb is in the correct position when Im measuring. Its doing my head in, is there anything else that could cause it?

piece of piss. make this as shown, then turn upside down and slide over each float, the tip should be just starting to compress at this height. using this tool makes sure its the same for both sides of the float so both sides are identical giving a true reading and not a one sided reading

if its overflowing and leaking are you sure the float needle isnt goosed ? i had a similar thing with a set of NC carbs, it was the float needle was rough and starting to corrode and sticking in the housing. polish it up a little and ensure its smooth and free.

Thanks Paul, I think it may be the corroded float needle, it does look a bit rough to be honest. I'll try polishing up and lubing it!

it may be worth replacing that and the seat. oh hang on is this RVF ? if so seats are not going anywhere. remember they wear as a pair.
not much point of lube - fuel will wash it of instantly.

Yeah, Im guessing if its worn, the carb is knackered right? the valve seat looks like its pressed into the carb body.

Ive given the valve and valve seat a good polish, alot of black crap came off it, so Im hopeful it will improve. i dont think the float looks right either, the main tab that holds the pin looks slightly bent from the float itself, so perhaps Im getting a false reading from this.

I'll check the heights tomorrow.

You have to bend that tab to adjust the float height

I don't mean the small tab is bent, I mean the whole metal body that the small tab sits within. it wasn't sat straight against the float and just didn't look right.
