Hi i have often fitted not a dry cell battery but a gell battery to my bikes as they can be more powerfull can be mounted on their side as they dont spill they do not need an overflow pipe and they do not dischare as easy as a lead acid and so long as you get at least the same amps or higher you can pick one with smaller diamentions to suit your needs and you will be fine hope this helps rick

I guess you are wanting to save weight too.
How about fitting a lithium battery that will weigh about 1.6lbs, like the Shorai. I don't have one yet but it is on my wish list.

Kayla fitted one to one of her bikes, I don't think she had any problems.

The Carbon seat unit is based on the Yam SP tail which uses a different subframe and mounting points

A BDK carbon tail unit is on my shopping list too, as decent RRSP tail units are like frickin antimatter - let alone rocking horse poo.

Can holes for rear lights be cut into carbon with a dremel ok??

Check out the standard battery fittment for a NC29 CBR 400, I've got one and it's quite a lot smaller than an FZR one, also much cheaper than the flash race batteries.

It might be worth contacting Thunderbike_steve on here as he has made some good copys of bdk seat units from fibreglass which would be a fraction of the cost maybe £100 or so but you'd have to speak to him.

I did fit one, and no I didn't have any problems.

I used a 4 cell LiFePO4 battery to my 4/6 which worked perfectly, and I also had one on the 3TJ I sold recently. I bought these-

which are exactly the same as the ones being peddled as 'racing batteries' for twice the price!

I used a couple of 50A Anderson connectors to fit it to the loom which makes it really easy to disconnect if you need to. The batteries come pre-charged and balanced and will start a 600 IL4 no probs at all, they charge from the bike's charging system and weigh less than half a kilo  What's not to like?
