I think my stator is finished.

Having a bit of a charging problem. Voltage across battery is about 12V5 after its been charged on a battery charger. Seems pretty new and topped up. Voltage across it when bike is running is about 11V and doesn't increase even when revved.

Did the RR checks on my multimeter from electrex world, and it seems fine. Also swapped it for another RR from a Honda Hornet, and still about 11V across the battery when running.

AC input to the RR (3 yellow cables) was about 2-3V when running, and revved.

The bike runs well when the battery is charged off a battery charger, but seems to slowly run down, over the course of 2 days or so when being used on the bike. Full beam killed it the other night.

So is it a stator i'm looking for, or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Cheers.

12.5 V is still pretty low fora decent battery

2v AC is terrible..your coils/stator is going to be toast!

Was the rect/reg connected when you measured the voltage on the yellow wires? Did you have the 55W lamps fitted to the yellow wires as per electrex world procedure?

NC30?

Battery should be reading 12.8v when fully charged, most will measure over 13v due to 'float charge' if it's reading that low i'd suspect the battery or multimeter.

To test the Stator. Disconnect the plug with the three yellow wires (it's behind the right hand mid panel if it's an NC30)

Start the bike (have the lights off as you'll be getting no charge at this point)

Get your multimeter set to AC volts, not DC (on switcable multimeters ac is usually 200 / 700 volts or something similar, and usually only 2 settings)

The lower setting is fine.

Call each wire in the plug A B and C.

With it set to AC volts as above measure the voltage output at 5000rpm between:

A and B
B and C
A and C

Be careful not to short out the multimeter.

Test and reply

Cheers guys for the help. I'm at work, and site like photobucket are banned (I work in a school), but i'll have a look when I get back home. Battery is out and charging in my workshop. Hopefully get it charged up, and enough to start and get me through my MOT at ten to five! I'll run the multimeter over those bits when i get home!

Where are you MoTing the bike? Don't tell them about the charging issue and ride there with the headlights disconnected.

Rode there with headlights off, battery was on charge all day at work, straight in, started straight to MOT Centre in Balmoral, pushed in from the lane. Everything was sweet.

Failed me on headlight alignment and brightness.

Going to have a hoke at this stator now. Any of you Belfast guys fancy helping, feel free!

Took the panel off, no nice honda connector, 3 bullet connectors, looked like they been installed by Stevie Wonder.

Here's the scores.

AB 42V
BC 41V
AC 0.58V

So what does it all mean. Fried Stator?
