NC24 Charging issues...

Hey guys,

When I bought my bike in Dec I had to replace my rec/reg, CDI and starter solenoid. She ran well but I had to constantly recharge my bettery. After replacing the battery for the second time I had my stator replace. The next prob I had was that my carbs had to be overhauled due to being clogged up and very unbalanced. When I got her back from the workshop she ran like an absolute dream!! Problem is 2 weeks later and I'm back to the charging problem? My fan doesn't work properly and all I can think is that maybe the heat has blown my rec/reg again? Do you think this could be the issue?? Plz help me out here because this is becoming so frustrating and its my only form of transport? Where should I start my checks anmd what else could potentially be the prob? Thanks in advance.

Howdo..

This is not a rare issue - but often you have to nail it all in one go to be sure you have it cracked.

1: Battery - check its voltage when at 5k revs -
2: check it with the bike turned off too
3: check the connectors for the reg rec/generator - any burning, charring, then you'll be needing to chop them off and replace connectors (or solder new spades on)
4: Check the output of the stator - should be approx 50v AC at 5k revs - it rises and falls with revs, so you'll see this.

Look in the docs section of the site - full testing details are there

edited - thanks Magg - I should leave this electrickery to you!

Typo error at point 4., should read "50VAC at 5k revs" (no rect/reg connected either).

Thanks guys! Turns out the sh*tty reg/rec the guys sold me was for a scooter and has now blown to smitherines! Getting a new one from a local VFR specialist I found and then I'll do all the tests. Will report back end of the weekend with my findings.
