Hi all took the vfr 400 on the track at rockingham circuit the other week and was fantastic really enjoyed the bike and am going again next bank holiday, problem i had was on the day the bike had to be started off a booster battery throughout the day, now ive cheked it over the rectifier plug that goes into it was melted....so i assume rectifier dead but also did the check on the altinator wiring like the haynes says, 3 yellow wires put multimeter across them and ohms bang on 1 ohm accross each of the three but when i tested to earth they all showed a connection.....and the book says should be infinite?? so do i assume this is whats nackered the rectifier and what effect does this have on things, if anyone knows id sure like to learn abit about it, cheers guys

Was rect/reg disconnected when you measured yellow wires to earth? Resistance to earth from yellow wires is not good. Melted connector does not necessarily mean dud rect/reg, in first instance simply means melted connector. Once stator issue resolved, clean up rect/reg connector contacts and test rect/reg, IMO haynes procedure is questionable. Download Honda Common Service Manual for an explanation of how the charging system works.

People run total loss which is without the stator etc , you will either have to bump or jump the bike to get it started and dont stall haha
You can get them reconditioned i believe but its on an exchange basis

Right the only thing that was happening was that while i was sitting in pit lane bike was hot battery was low and fan was running and the bike cut out obviously the fan must have been takeing all the juice, if i go with a full battery do you think that gets people through the day? trying not to spend to much on it as it was a starter bike to get me into tracking, its great piece of kit but im sure for what i spend to get it right i could just buy a better one. cheers all for the help lads
