I have just discovered what my bike sounds like without a silencer fitted! Not intentionally I might add.

I put a cut rear on and slip on can, which did indeed slip on. All good I thought, sounded quite nice too. Just went out to fill up with juice, pulling into the filling station and I suddenly heard a seriously loud engine note, I thought someone had pulled alongside me on something quite a bit larger than my 400, but nope the noise was all mine! The can had slipped off and was hanging by the strap only.

So one new clamp later all's well again.

I imagine the noise is a bit like it may well sound with something like a maggot

haha, last winter i had a crazy idea once id reffited all my wiring etc and thought i need to turn this baby over to warm her up i let her idle with no system at all, needless to say i let her idle for all of 10 secs before i hit the kill switch. She stayrd cold until until if finished all the bike :D

I remember something similar happening to me once. I fitted a Chinese MotoGP style megaphone to a ZX10R. Tightened up the bolt and it felt solid. Went for a spin, all fine and a nice meaty sound. Took it for a dyno run

The chap started giving it some welly on the rolling road and suddenly the exhaust hose bucked and ripped. Out flew the megaphone
