Sounds like you were on the right track with the seals, did you do anything with the pistons?

i think the next port of call will be to give the m/c a service i just wondered if anyone had any other idea or had it happened to them and had a definite fix

How thoroughly did you clean out the slots that the piston seals sit in? When brake fluid gets moisture in it and then dries it forms crystals. When they form under the piston seals they push the seals out of the slots and against the piston, stopping them from returning in the bores. Just putting new seals in wouldn't help this.

If you've not cleaned them out thoroughly, carefully remove your new seals so you can re-use them and carefully clean out the slots with a dremel with brass brush or a scribber or something like that. Use red rubber grease when you put the seals back in.

Or, if you've already cleaned them out, ignore the above.....
