Can an nc30 reg rect be reliably tested with a multimeter when its off the bike?

Cheers, Rob.

Short answer, no, long answer depends on the fault. Some faults can be detected using only a multimeter, however there are faults conditions that need more than just a multimeter.

Do you have a problem?

Ye, I stopped the bike for a quick break last week and it wouldn't start up again because the battery was too low. The reg/rect is relatively new and the battery is brand new so went straight to testing the stator (reg/rect unplugged) and got some bad readings around 50-60 ohms. Removed the stator but now I get good readings of around 0.7-0.8. I'm just looking for tests I can do while my genny cover is at the powdercoaters.

Well with that ohms its proabably just your stator was it all black and burnt?

Are the wires to your reg rec fried?

Bump the bike to get it started then test ac voltage

The stator looks to be in good condition and none of the wiring has burnt. When the genny cover is back I'll go through the full electrical check in the Haynes.

I put a relay on the low beam headlight wiring recently, could that have caused any problems?

i wouldn't have thought the low beam relay mod would have caused the problem if you followed the instructions correctly...
have you checked the connector block that the 3 yellow wires go into on the right hand side of the bike. if this is burnt/fried then replace and see if this solves the prob

Is that where the stator goes into?

the wires run from the stator, through the V of the engine to the cluster of connector blocks on the right hand side of the frame.. just under the fairing finfill..
it is one of those connector blocks that the wires run to the reg/rec..
mine was burnt/corroded and caused reg failure symptoms.

Gotcha, I'll check. Thanks for the advice!
