Hey guys, I just changed my fork oil and gave my forks a good clean, I put in 445 ml per fork of 10 weight oil as per reading threads here. (total 890ml). But the forks only seem to compress half way then have a hydrolic lock, so much so that i can brake hard enough to get the back wheel of the ground but have the front fork only compress half way.

I was wondering was it 445ml divided by the two forks or 445 ml per fork? Otherwise what else could be causeing this? All I did was change the fork oil!?!

I have not measured the fork oil as stated in another thread (73mm) i think it was, is that with a fully compressed fork but?

It sounds like too much oil or air lock.

It's 445 ml in each leg, but measuring the fork oil level from the top of the stanchion (with the leg fully extended) is a more accurate way of getting the right amount in there, because you'll never get all of the old stuff out. Did you pump the fork (i.e. cartridge) a few times to remove all the old oil?

Did you pump the fork up and down after filling it with oil? This removes any air from the cartridge and is fairly important.

I have to take them apart and have a look now I think, i'm pretty sure I pumped them and stuff, not sure whats going. I will take them apart and have another go and make sure I pump the hell out of them after the oil goes in.
I thought I did all that though. Someone said unless you fully rip them apart you'll be left with heaps of oil in there, but i can't see how? I will measure them again for an oil level 74mm from the top of the tube right? I should be able to compress 1 fork on its own down under my weight (100kg) i would have thought. We'll see.

I still have the same problem.
I put in the required amount of oil 445 ml/fork. However... when you come to measure the fork level (fully extended) the cap is hard up against the fork, so how exactly can you measure that accurately for 1.
Secondly, the fork seems to be really soft to 1/2 way... then all of a sudden gets super hard super fast. So whats going on here, it went from seemingly hydrolic lock, to now super soft then super hard. Anyone got a step by step breakdown and adjustment I can have a look at? I checked youtube but get nothing but bullshit. I suspect a previous owner has fucked around and messed it all up.

Have you got a haynes manual, I found mine priceless when I was doing my fork seals.

If you bought spring uprate kit from rick oliver, it will come with the instruction from the manual.
