I`ve just got an nc 24 and haven`t got a manual. My bikes oil level was down, but wanted to check if its best with these bikes to check the oil with the dipstick just firmly inserted or the dipstick fully inserted and then screwed down. :geek:

Sit bike up straight and just rest the dipstick in , check and make sure its between the two markers

The oil level is measured with the dip-stick resting on the case, not screwed in.

The bike must be upright on a level suface.

Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes.

Stop the engine, remove the oil level gauge (dipstick) and wipe with a clean cloth.

2 - 3 minutes are stopping the engine (ensuring the bike is still upright and level) insert the stick without screwing in.

The mark should be between the upper and lower levels.. if it's near to the low level add more oil.

Is this the same for the NC30?

I assume the manual for the nc30 will stil be ok for the nc 24 apart from possibly checking valve clearances etc ?

Yes.

Honda Common Service manual, Chapter 2, section 7 or 11, I forget which one tells you the oil check procedure!

That's very interesting. I'd always been screwing mine in lightly. I'll have to re-check my oil when I get home now.
