I've been doing some research on different tyre combos and other tyre options for my NC30. I've kept my search somewhat limited in the sense I'm sticking with Bridgestone tyres, a well known reputable brand.

I've come across many posts which state that the "perfect" combo is a BT090 front with a BT092 rear. Obviously perfect depends entirely on riding style and personal preference. But what I noticed is many people run on the 90 and 92 tyres... is that my only option?

So up for consideration:

BT016 / BT021
120/60/17 and 160/60/18 (notice the rear tyre is wider )

BT090 / BT092
120/60/17 and 150/60/18

If anyone has had experience or can tell me more I'd really appreciate it. I don't mind combining different tyres to get the "prefect" combination set up.

BT090 are the right tyres
H rated so they warm up better

also int he right size
160/60 is a balloon..and are tyres designed for touring bikes..

160 fits jim but not as we know it.
for pootling along the motorway or commuting the 92 is just fine, 90 for fun spirited cornering.
92 will run off the tyre way to early even on the road.

Cheers guys! If I were to stick with the normal 150/60/18 set up I think I'd go with BT090's... But I'm not giving up on the aggressive wider rear idea. I've messaged Banoffee who has tried the wider set up according to a post earlier last year. So I'm waiting to see what he says/how he found it

How is it an "Aggressive wider rear" when it is a poor option and compromises the bike? It looks like a balloon.

Boils my piss, in a quiet way, that people are prepared to use substandard, incorrect tyres that are made for fucking 250kg touring bikes!

If you want some good wear from your tyres then don't ride the sodding bike. If you want to get 15000 miles out of a tyre, and ride slowly, gripless and looking like a dick with a balloon on the rear...go and knock yourself out!

OR..get this for a winning idea....get the RVF wheel and fit a tyre of the right size to it in a more suitable compound and construction for a 400.

I don't agree with you on the BT92, CRM, it is a wide looking, grippy enough and last long piece of kit. Looks old tech..but is the tool for this job. I'd rather that than wrong sized Z rated tyres that are shit (BT016)

Agreed mark but you look at a 090 fitted to a 092 next to each other, profiles similar but the tyre runs out long before the 090 does - as such you run the 92 right to the edge and beyond with very little effort
they are grippy enough very true - assuming your riding on tread and not rim

I've melted some BT92s around Cadwell before and they work lovely. I'm no hero that would go too fast ont he roads to be fair..and I have just bought a new 090 for mine - it is a consumable item at the end of the day!

i fell off a 3xv without even trying on the roads, again reason as above, bike just outhandled the tyre - certainly wasn't a bout of skill thats for sure or i would have saved it
