NC30 tyres

Sorry - it's probably been done to death, but I think I might have a slightly different spin on it?

Firstly - I talking standard NC30 sizes...

I'm currently running on oldish Dunlop something-something alpha-10s (which I believe are quite grippy). I like them a lot. However, I do a lot of motorway miles. The rear Dunlop has already squared off, having done about 3000 km motorway miles.

What tyres, oh, GreyBike.com, should I get next?

I don't really want to get anything that's less grippy and a lot more hardwearing, but if Bridgestone 090s are going to flatten off straight away, would I be better off with 092s?

I only pootle around corners...

Shame if your hadnt of squared you alpha 10's off i would have swapped them for a 100 mile old set of 92's.

92's are the popular sports touring choice but you could try michelin 2CT's, diablo corsa's

God, that was a quick reply! TBH the alpha-10s were fairly worn overall when I bought the bike, so you probably wouldn't have wanted them. I'm just worried that if I get something more hardwearing, I'm going to start to worry about leaning the bike in corners again; whereas at the moment, the Dunlops inspire confidence (even though they're old).

Running Michelin Road Pilot 2 front and rear, no complaints grip wise, too new to comment on wear. Bought because of Michel's reputation and the original GPR100 rear had squared up and the Michel Pure Power had gone triangular, a combination of shapes that made for interesting cornering. Road Pilot 3 out now but cost more and I doubt I would notice the difference.

Rear is 160/60 as this is the only 18" size Michelin touring/sport tyre I can buy. Although it has been suggested that the size on the rear does not suit an NC30, IMO not an issue but it is a road only bike and I probably ride too slow to notice.

Sarah the 92's will last along time but if pushed anything like you run off the edge of the tyre quickly due to the profile. perfect winter / wet / high milesage tyre
why not a 090 front, spare rear wheel and swop the wheels over on the rear with a 092 when doing a motorway run and leave a 090 rear for playing ?

Ok, so having read the other recent thread on tyres, I'm now convinced I should get an 092 for the rear, at least. But what about the front? If I don't intend to put an 090 on the rear, am I still better off with an 090 on the front, or is that likely to square off as well? Shall I just go for 092 front and rear?

Oh, and where's the cheapest place to buy them?

Quick (but late) update.

I've still got the Dunlop on the front, but the 092 on the rear, and I quite like it. I can't say there's any reduction in my confidence with that tyre on the back. But I'm quite surprised by just how close to the edge I've managed wear the tyre already, without even trying. :shock:

I've still got my chicken strips though, but if I do ever get the bike near a track I think even I will need a 090 on the back. :smile:
