Starter motor - rebuild or bin it? NC29

I think my starter motor is drawing too much current when the engine is hot.
So if the bike is left an hour after riding it wont start, it turns over fine, bump it and it goes fine. Leave all day or over night and its fine.
New batt and reg/rec last year as the whole lot was duff.
Took the motor apart and the brushes are nearly all gone - around 6-7 mm left.
Also a load of black dust came out of the case - I'm assuming thats the brushes residue.
Is it worth buying new brushes and fitting them or just buy another ( 2nd hand ) starter. I just dont want to be in the same situation again in 12 months time!
Also the motor doesnt spin as well by hand as I thought it would!
Would a motor from another bike fit - so Im not just looking for an NC29 one? Perhaps one that is not 20 years old!
Cheers.
