She's not a happy bike, once up and going she'll start to feel like she's missing a beat
similar feel to carb icing but not as severe

how long since you did a service?

Plugs are the likeliest thing to need doing and also the air filter.


Is it happening at certain revs?

Also, is the bike standard with a standard can etc? It can make a huge difference to how it runs.

serviced 4 weeks ago, air filter clean, new plugs fresh oil and filter

most noticable mid range in the revs, or on a stady 60-80mph can feel it pulsing almost!

Standard pipes and can only mod is unrestricting it

Was it ok before the service?

Its probably worth checking to see if the ht leads are on ok. I had mine being a bit erratic because the ht leads werent pushed into the coils enough. It could be something similar.

wasn't 100% before the service either, leads all on properly

its getting annoying now

Has it run right since you bought the bike?

What are the downpipes like? I know some of the pipes you can get off ebay affect the midrange, maybe a previous owner put new pipes on it?

LP has a picture of the downpipes that give crap midrange, if she posts it up then you could check and see how yours look.


If it used to be ok but its been running worse since you've had it then its a case of looking through everything to find the problem. - has it been sat for a while? if so then it could be blocked jets/crap fuel etc.

replaces the rotton blowing pipes that were on there, but with another set of used originals

she did play up for my other half when he was commuting on her and he ended up taking head apart cleanign through
everything, and did the service at the same time
she now starts 95% of the time without grumble... but still has this odd power loss (tres scary on a nice sweeper at 80-90mph when the power feels to vanish !!!)

It might be worth checking the carbs. At those revs its not going to be the pilot circuit so blocked jets are arent going to be the fault.

Its unlikely but you might have a bent or worn needle?

Or, a crap connection on one of the electrical plugs. what condition is the wiring loom in? Cleaning up the multiplug connections isnt going to hurt.

connections all got a clean up same time as service, other half is a mechanic and worked on here for about 5 hours
after she failed to get him to work that day and he ended up pushing her the 2 miles home that he'd made!!

Fitted a different end can on last night, partially on a "wonder if this will fit" vein and this morning she's felt heaps better
not saying its fixed it yet..... but maybe you never know! and who'd have thought a quill from a zx7r would fit lol

Is there anyone near you with the same bike? It might be worth trying your exhaust on a different bike and seeing if thats got the flatspots?

If it is the can, try giving it a de-coke.
