So i thought i would finally make a post about my GSXR400 i bought around 2 months back for £500 + £100 for delivery which i thought wasn't to bad. It had good tyres tatty panels and been stood for 2 years+

I was told the carbs needed a clean and new oil which i though okay thats cool its fine i can do that easy no problem but like always its never as it seems and the problems did baffle us for a little while but however we sorted it.

It turned out it actually needed:

New Battery £40 (Rob Hunter Battery)
New Starter £40 (Other one worked at first then stopped we stripped and cleaned then it started to spin backwards)
New Solenoid £20 (Original worked fine but i got picky)
Firing order needed correcting it was WAY OFF

Thats what we have done so far however the bike when we start it still wants to rev on its own and i cant figure out why the hell its doing this just in case it is the O rings i have ordered a set from Valve to be sure and just so i know it will run nice in the future.

It is low on fuel in the tank but i wouldn't think it would effect it as much as its doing if anything it should die and do the total opposite. The engine does sound really sweet so all i can think is thats it a carb problem however the carb sliders are moving free and the throttle and choke all work correct we double checked.

What im asking is could a dodgy O ring cause a rev happy problem with the bike? When you start the bike it idles then all of a sudden starts to go higher and higher only to like 4-5 but you can tell its not normal.

My Plans for this bike are the following:
Full Respray in Metallic Black with a tiny bit a glitter £300
All Black Bolts £60
Black Headlight cover £21
Red Levers
Red Pegs

So really as you can see i dont wanna do alot i wanna keep it simple but smart at the same time which personally i dont think will take alot with this bike its a decent looking ride if you ask me.

On a final note if anyone can help me with the rev issue please do id be ever so thankful.

Usually a sign its going weak.
Float heights way off, fuel not flowing from tank or air/vacuum leak.

What do you mean when you say 'adjusted the firing order'? this is fixed!

The firing order was wrong by that i mean specifically the leads went to wrong plugs thats why when we originally tryed to start it it would back fire and smoke but never actaully start, and when i mean backfire i mean BACKFIRE!

a good arms length at one point.

Im whipping the carbs off hopefully tomorrow and im going to take another look and see whats going on down there where exactly would i locate the mixture screw? im gonna check its on 1.5 turns

Mine did that after I rebuild the engine. It was the cheap jubilee clips I used on the inlet rubbers and it was sucking air in. Make sure carbs are pushed fully into the engine side and use decent jubilee clips.

Your not getting the black anodized Pro-bolts for the engine are your? i really hope not. fairings ok yh. But engine is a huge no no. Use stainless steel best. can buy of 560 piece stainless steel nuts and bolts for £25 witch is great and used em all over the bike.

No i wont be using Pro Bolt on the engine what so ever only on the Screen and fairing. i did look at the £25 set but i got told by a friend that when he order a set for his SRAD they was cheap quality.

The clips look fine tbh i really cant understand it but i suppose once the carbs are off i can inspect further i still think its the O rings but who knows really. Its definatly not engine side the engine sounds really quite sweet

Took the carbs off today ready for tomorrow when hopefully the O Rings should arrive if they dont it still gives me a chance to check the float hights ect ect any thing else i should we aware of?

Makesure the old pilot screw o'ring comes out with the screw, spring and washer.
People think its broken up and disappeared when its actually still up in the hole.
They rebuild and wonder why it wont run right.
On refitting the emulsion tube it only goes in one way aroud due to a cut out at its base.

okay today we found out every mixture screw was off WAY OFF someone has been fiddling with this bike beyond belief and obviously dont know what the hell they are doing one of the mixture screws was right in some where 1 turn some 2 some 1 and half its all incorrect but hopefully it should run good soon.

The carb o-rings ive ordered seem very thin compared to the old ones and ive decided to order a full set of complete running carbs from ebay for a heavy price of £111 but tbh i just want this carb issue sorted now its beyond a joke lol.

as far as the project goes im now picking it up again and brining the bike back down to mine and putting it in the garage tonight hopefully where im gonna be going over the bike checking all wheel bearings, brakes and probally taking the swing arm off to clean along with many other things for example fixing the leaking sump gasket
