Hi everyone. I wonder if anyone can tell me how to adjust the cam chain on a Project Big One? I think I need to remove the bolt from the end of the pillar that sticks out the back of the cylinder block and then insert a small screwdriver and turn a recessed screw clockwise, but there is not much room to get the screwdriver in so I guess there is a special tool for it - am I right? Is the screwdriver a normal slot type and how much do I need to turn it? The cam chain is noisy at low revs and so I reckon it must be a bit loose even though the engine has only done less than 10,000miles. Any advice would appreciated - I have already removed the bolt once and it was not much fun replacing it so I only want to do it once more - and next time with the proper adjuster tool. Cheers.

Dont play with the cam chain tensioner, the tensioner is self adjusting so does not need adjustment. The bolt is for the tool to wind the tensioner off & lock it if you do valve clearance adjustment or engine strip, if your engine is noisey you have another problem. I have seen the tensioner break but is rare.

A belated thanks for the reply, Spanners. The noise is at low tick over but goes when the engine reaches about 1500RPM. I had read somewhere that the tensioner can stick and hence I thought that if I just loosened then retighened the tensioner it might sort of reinstate it and get the tensioner working again. It certainly sounds like a chain rattling around. Not sure what to do apart from giving it to a dealer. The bike runs very well and hardly has any miles on it.

That could be starter sprag clutch rattling, came a cross that before on a CBR400....!
