I'd like to put a manual switch onto my nc30 radiator fan. I was wondering if there was a particular type or gauge of wire to go for?

Just off the temp sensor switch on the lhs ns of the lower radiator the system works to earth so you need a switch that connects to the frame and then to the temp sensor, as the circuit is allready protected by a fuse a very simple and quick mod.

As above but are you masking an underlying problem rather than fixing it?

I fitted one as its so simple to do, its sometimes a good idea to flick the fan on before it is needed. I like the fact that you have backup too. I agree it is masking a problem if the rad switch is faulty, but where will you be when you discover the switch is faulty, if its by the roadside then i think the manual switch will be worth its weight in gold.

Thanks for the help everyone. My fan works as it should. I want to do it, as silver1956 says, so I can turn it on nice and early.
So no particular wire that I need to get?
Is there a thread on here about doing it?

Bob, if you have a bit of old wiring loom use a bit of that, nothing too big needed. I put my switch in the black fairing support on the LHS so the wiring doesnt need to be too long. You just need to tee into the single thermostat switch wire, take it through the switch and to frame earth. You want a switch suitable for 12v halfords should be able to help there.

Got a switch for the same reasons; it's particularly useful in heavier traffic and the temp is already high!
Keep in mind that it's easy to forget it's ON, unless you get a switch which has a light built into it.
Maplins will have all the switchs and wiring, etc you'll need!

Brilliant. Thanks for your help there guys. So I just cut the wire running to the bottom rad sensor, run it to a switch and earth the switch?

I thought of the "leaving it on" scenario and got one of those safety covered switches like they have in Apollo 13.
