Hi all.
I might be looking for a FZR400 in the near future.
The question is which is the best & reliable modle to buy?
Thanks.

Rob.

the 3tj is the latest model and has a 17inch rear as opposed to the 18inch of the others.but all handle really well and i guess it's down to you which you like the look of and your budget to some extent. they're all better than honda 400's!

I've never had a Yamaha blow up on me yet, or any other engine failure, and I've had literally hundreds of bikes pass through my hands over the last 15 years. I have had these problems with quite a few Hondas though.....

And from experience, all Hondas have used more oil than the Yamahas :peace:

i know there is brand loyalty and the like, i have had plenty of each too, and while granted most of my Yamaha ownership has been 2 stroke based, reliability is as you would expect, but rust and quality falls along way short era - era compared to Honda. i will say though i have never owned a FZR400 and only ever ridden one 3tj.

as for oil consumption, my RC30 uses a fair old bit, but no more than say a 98 - 03 R1 or similar. which honda's have you had that have burned oil ? i cant think of any of mine that even when shagged out burned oil (RC30 as an exception as thats by design)

Wipe your feet on the way out...

I think value for money has to go with one of the 1WG models, probably the Genesis or the 3EN1 as they seem to be pretty unloved :(

Best to look for a 3TJ if you can but the 1WG's are good too.
My 3TJ doesn't really use much oil, keep the carbs and calipers clean and make sure you don't have rusty downpipes, any Yamaha will be good.

Mind the dorr on your way out CRM

yamaha's don't leak, they just mark their territory!
