Post by john_6714 »

hi thanks to the kind gents that gave me the advice about my fzr400 1gw after changing a shed load of things on bike it all came down to the fuel pump cheers for that . got bike running fine on sunday but went over a speed bump and all the electrics went out , the battery is fully charged and i have checked all the fuses and none have blown , got power going to the conecter for the ignition barrel ,the barrel is not the best as you can use differant keys to turn it on ,but now there is nothing ,could it be worth changing it for new .

If you've got power going in but not coming out then it should be the switch. You can take them apart if you can get them off the headstock. If you want the original key to work (it should do the fuel cap and rear seat lock too) you could take it to a locksmith and see if they can rescue it.
If you still want to a matching key for the locks but think yours really is shagged out have a look for FZR600 lock set but check the seat lock is the same fit as the 400.

Don't be temped to just cut the wires from you original, if you get the 600 locks you might have to put your wiring into it.

had a similar problem with mine when i got it, all the documents no keys, but the local locksmith was excellent he fixed the ignition lock and reset all three locks (ignition, tank and seat)they now work with the original yam key, £30 and cheaper than a new barrel and key that won't fit all the locks

check the branches page, might be one near you or find a good locksmith near you

Have a look on the solenoid - the main fuse is probably there it should be about 30amp. Follow the heavy red wire from the battery and the next thing it connects to is the solenoid

hi finally found main fuse and it had blown, bought new battery for bike but before i got it i managed to get bike started with old battery on let it warm up then noticed smoke coming from the new rectifier that i had fitted ,i put new battery on and it hasnt smoked since but still gets hot ,i allso replaced fuel filter but not sure if i have put it on the right way ,as it still stalls when gearing down .
