Hi there.
I am from South Africa and I can get a 2002 Suzuki GSX-R400 from some one in Port Elizabeth at a very good price (R 5000-00). One problem is that, according to the seller, the CDI is faulty and the bike needs a new battery as well as paint job.

A friend of mine told me last night that it will be a huge risk to buy this bike, because something about over revving and damaging valves and crank shaft.
I am not a bike expert and do not know much about bikes.

I need a bigger bike, because I must travel 55Km daily to work and again 55Km back home. this is on the open road and I am currently using a 250cc Scrambler which is struggling at 95Km/h.

I would really appreciate any comments, because I am planning to buy the bike on Sunday 2012-02-12.
Anything that I can check, will also be appreciated.

NS: How do one attach an image to a post?

Thanx

Hi,
You need to get a little more info about the bike as im sure they never made the gsxr after 1996.
Find out if the cdi is broken and try to track a spare before you buy as without this you've only got a very large paper weight.

Thanx a lot. I also saw that there must be a mistake with the year model. But I will make sure on the paper work this weekend when I will inspect the bike. It may be 1992. Luckily I organized with some one who knows something of bikes to escourt me so that I can make an informed decision.

Thanx again for the reply.

I have made the purchase of my bike today.
This will be a BIG project for me.
The condition of the bike is not tooo good, but I know that I will make a success of this project.
I will visit this Forum a lot to get some help and advise.

I must just make a plan to get the bike home. I must borrow either a pick-up or a trailer from a friend.

The bike is 150 Km away from my residence.
