JDM FZ400s had the Deltabox frame too. I've had three of them
Biggest give-aways on that bike are the Monocross swingarm and the rear light unit.

I thought the FZ had the steel frame and squarer tank like the FZ600, the FZR used the alloy frame.

Nope, sorry-
JDM FZ400-
JDM FZR400 1WG Genesis-
The FZ (1984) had a spindly (aluminium?) frame and the FZR (1986) had the Deltabox. The first road bike to have an aluminium
beam frame was the 1985 TZR250 1KT, although the RG250 ('83) was the first mass produced road bike to have an aluminium frame.

The FZ frame was square section steel, the paint was aluminium colour though.
I had the FZ600 in 87, it used the FZ400 steel frame with the old XJ600 air/oil cooled engine, 16" front. It was a good fast (for the time) bike with about 70 bhp (?) and it had a powerband too.

Hello. I recently rebuilt a 46X (FZ400R). It's a small bike but It makes me smile every time I go out on it. My only problem is that the rev counter has a red light with a word in Japanese at the side of it. The light sometimes comes on but I don't know why although I assume that red means a warning of some sort. Oil level is correct. Despite watching several reruns of SHOGUN, I'm still in the dark. Can anyone help? Geccles3

Sorry Kayla, but I've owned three FZ400s, one steel frame and one alu. The earliest ones had a steel frame like the 1984 model in your picture. The early 1986 models had the Deltabox frame - this was the change over year when the FZ was discontinued. The one I linked to has the FZ400 air cooled engine and is a 1985 model. The FZR400 didn't appear until May 1986 and had a water cooled engine.
I know my Yamahas hun

I always thought the FZ400's all had steel frames and liquid cooled engines? I've never seen one with a deltabox frame, be interested to see pics though. I did a search and all the later FZ's still seem to have the perimeter frame:-

Most of the FZ400s were air cooled motors with the magnesium rocker cover, same as the 600. There were a limited number of water cooled models, these were the FZ400R and had the aluminium rocker cover.
