I never fit a split link if I can help it. The only time I will is on a 125. Always a riveted link on anything else.

Ditto. Rivet link is the way to go. Only use a split link to get the bike to the garage to get it riveted!

Ran a split link on mine for 3 years, no issues and I'm no Sunday rider.
This has been done before, it's down to personal choice and what you feel ok with.

soft / rivet link at a push, Hard link by preference.
Only shit (split) link i have is on my RDZ125LC and it still worries me every time i ride it
Soft links are pretty good and good for your home diy cheapo kits on ebay but i do link my hard links for that endless OE chain look. funnily enough using a OE chain too.

Paul,
Where do you get hard links from.
I use RK chains, those O E from Honda are endless, and from Feridax come with hollow end rivets.

Dave, for all my larger bikes i buy new OE chains for a 06 plate 600RR and cut to size, and buy an genuine hard link for around a fiver from Honda and use the whale brand hammer for that factory finish.
Ok a bit OTT for most, but the genuine chain is not expensive for a quality chain (how long do OE chains last compared to aftermarket ?) and look after it. granted its not gold or as good looking as an aftermarket item, but its a fair price and lasts a really long time.

Thanks, do you have part number or ordering details for hard link, do they supply gold links?.
RCs and NCs came with RK chains, GB525RO Gold race chain, and GB525SM4, was that gold or plain?
I fit the endless RO on the RC direct from Honda, but the NC chain is no longer available. A gold chain is fitted at present.
I use a Whale splitter and hammer.

I've always used split links on bikes up to 400cc but that's just for convenience (I don't have a chain splitter, just a grinder!) and I've never had a problem with them. My bikes have had a lot of hard riding, too.
I think it's down to your personal choice, obviously riveted links are a stronger option if they're done properly and you have the gear or someone does it for you.
