Hi all,
I've posted a few times about purchasing a NC30/35 and I've been informed by you guys to check amongst other things whether the fairings/plastics are original. I've not inspected one of these bikes close up before, so as I'm hoping to view my first one soon how do I tell?
Are after market items thicker?
Are they generally a different colour inside?

I'll be checking usual used bike related things, tyres, brakes, log book/frame/engine numbers (are they easy to find?), charging circuit (regulator/rectifier), engine sound and performance, etc.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated, I hope to be a real member soon!

From experience, OE panels tend to have the manufacturer's name embossed on the inside somewhere along with a part number and maybe fabrication date.

have you been keeping an eye on the for sale section here.. probably the best place to hang around and look.. :)

put your location in your profile, maybe someone local to you on here will let you take a look at their bike. Or take a look through the forum, find someone local and ask is you could take a look. Once you've seen a few you'll have a good idea what's right and what's not

That's a great idea, I didn't think of that. I'm located in Gainsborugh, Lincolnhire just off A631. If anyone has a NC the would let me look at I would very much appreciate it. I'm sure I could stretch to a beer!

There's a NC for sale on Pistonheads website in Lincolnshire (Spalding), but it's got Tyga bodywork, it's not really what I'm looking for and it's daytime MOT only. The advert says its easy to convert to headlight/full MOT but I'm not convinced, plus I prefer the standard looking bikes. I quite like the one advertised on here that's in North Wales with aftermarket paint, but it's too far away, I have health problems and can't ride that far to get it home.

Back to your original question about identifying OE fairings on an NC35... mine is an RR '94 but I expect this would be the same on all models-

The upper fairing (nosecone) is made from red plastic, so is red at the back. The infill panels are blue plastic, the lower two halves are white and the vee-piece at the radiator is red plastic. The ducktail is white plastic.

From what I can tell there is no paint on the fairings at all, all of the colours are a combination of plastic base colour and various combinations of stickers.

On my bike the tank is painted (obviously) and has a clear coat over the Honda wing decal. I assume this is original but I am not sure.

If you can stick a ride home from Blackburn, I don't mind picking the bike up on the trailer for fuel money and the cost of a bit of lunch

As thunderace said, all original panels have the wording 'honda' moulded into the back of them, not really possible to see when the panels are on the bike though.

Picking some of the newer chinese plastic fairings from originals is not so easy if you're new to the game.
