God dam Lights

Hello friends,
Can anybody help me please, when my bike is on tick over the lights are slightly duller than when riding/reving. I'm sure thats how they should be, but when riding they suddenly get really bright then go back and i'ts doing this all the time.
The difference is 'LIKE' going from dip beam to full beam although this isn't whats happening. I'ts starting to worry me as a car pulled out in front of me 10mins ago.(it was close)
I've checked fuses and bulb connections but they are ok.
Can someone tell me where the earths are?
Has anyone had this sort of problem before?
Thanks, Ian...

Hi Ian,

It could be your voltage regulator on the way out. Check the voltage on the battery terminals on tickover and then revving the bike. if it goes over about 13 and a half/14 when you rev the bike then it could be dead. - voltages are off the top of my head but i know that if its massively high then its not good! Hopefully someone good on bike electrics will post the more exact mesurements.

Cheers

Thanks Matchlessman,
I hope its not. I'm on my third reg/ref in a year. I made sure when i put this one on about 3 months ago, that all the voltages were correct, after the second one i fitted wasn't the correct one for the bike and burnt/melted the connector to it. I'll check it again in the morning to be sure.
Thanks for the reply.

hold it at 5kish, should see no more than 14.7v and no less than 13.7 ideally.

Check you have the correct standard Honda import bulbs fitted (35w dip) and the 2 x main 12V connections on the starter relay are clean / not melted / not corroded.

Hope that helps.

55/35W cant remember what the H is, but do know its not H4 as i used to cut the tabs off, i can now use H4 with the units modified to take them.

but if you have higher wattage bulbs fitted with out the propper relay mods, you'd loose the dip as the switch innards have melted.
