My nc has not been run for about 12 months.
I dropped the fuel and put fresh in, sprayed easy start down each carb.
Shes firing but just not enough and then the plugs foul.
Anyone know an easier way or shall i get some new plugs, it ran ok b4

Yes to new plugs.

Is the choke mechanism working and are you opening it fully?

The choke could be stuck closed; that's the one problem that I had to get a garage to sort out for me.
Up until then no amount of easystart would allow more than 10-15 seconds running.

Fouling plugs? too rich.. choke stuck on?

floats stuck open.. sounds like you need to clean the carbs.. will most likely cure all the problems with the least hassle.

ive heard far too many stories of Cold engines smashing Valves and other scary problems e.g. throwing a rod through the block!!!!!
Petrol at the moment is worse than poor,unfortunatley the best way forward is to strip your Carbs.
Set aside an afternoon and take your time its not as bad as you think and if you do it right its well worth the effort.

Have you thrown that Easy Start away yet?

^No it's not? I haven't heard of Easy Start causing any damage to an engine, unless the engine was previously fucked with, prior to starting. The only way it will smash a valve or throw a rod is if the valve timing was wrong or there was a significant amount of liquid in the cylinder. Certainly not from using Easy Start.

There are lots of stories around the use of easy-start.

I think perhaps a lot of them come from the fact the engine is pretty knackered / has problems to begin with so when something breaks the easy-start gets blamed.

Using a lot of it quite regularly might accelerate engine-wear as it could remove oil from the bores and might burn hot.. (more of a diesel issue)

It's not great on gaskets so I wouldn't use it on anything..

If the bike needs it and your not living in Yakutsk (-36c today) then it's better to sort and fix the underyling issuse than to rely on something else!

It is always worth a try, but don't empty a can trying to start, give up if it does not fire up after several attempts.
I have used Easystart on mostly old engines [and lawnmowers] in the past with no problems.
Some say it gives future bad starting or the engine will not now start without it.

The plain truth is that there is was an underlying starting problem in the first place that does not get traced and fixed.

Finally got round to work on bike, changed the plugs and bingo, she runs!
Carb balance next!

All Easy Start does is provide easier combustion, the flash point is much lower than petrol. I use it myself, albeit very sparingly, to "jump start" stubborn motors that have been stood for a while. It saves wear and tear on the starter, battery, etc.

However, it does have drawbacks. Mainly the fact that it has the effect of pre-detonation inside the cylinders because it ignites sooner than petrol. In extreme cases this can lead to premature wear but IME, if your maintenance regime is good enough and ES is only used as a last resort and sparingly, it shouldn't present any problems.
