Ive recently noticed that 2 of the 4 clamps/flanges that hold the downpipes to the head have broken pretty much in half (As seen in pic), they arent leaking at the moment but i wouldnt mind sorting it. Are they seperate from the downpipes? i.e. can they even be taken off the pipes?



Does anyone know where i could get a set of these clamps? Im pretty sure the downpipes are sandy bike spares ones but i have contacted them and they have said the downpipes they sell are manufactured with them on as a complete set so they cant supply me with any.

you cant replace them without welding. you can try cutting them then welding them once on the pipe. or I guess you could cut the end of the pipes off then reweld them once you've slid them on. but either way it's not ideal! can you not get the ones that are there welded back up?

i got a set on my old knackered headers,
look slightly different to the pic though, as mine are ally and finned (original i think)
the only way to get em off is cut the headers, which is no problem for me as the headers are fu*ked anyway, but you'd have to do the same to fit em on your pipes then weld back together
if you know someone who's handy with a mig then you could give it a go,
anyway you can have em for the postage if you think you can make it work

looking at the pic, your brackets pull against the back of the flange,
were as the originals have a small recess (3/4 mm) where the flange fits into the bracket, this could be why yours have gone as the pressure is not applied evenly around the bracket
having said all that i recon your best option (if you brackets are steel) is whip off the headers bend the brackets strait and spot weld the crack (no butchering of the headers needed )

You'd need to find the right size, but they work well- I used a similar thing on my TRX when I had to cut the collars off.

but that's a good idea
i can still remember when most pipes and collars came separate with 2 inserts in each collar to make em fit, just wasn't sure you could still get em for these modern bikes

My Bimota has non captive collars. They have a groove cut into them that face the engine, you keep the the pipes in place with steel angle formed to a semicircle (2 / pipe)

I'll try and get a clip from the parts book tomorrow

Unfortunately this is the case with a lot of things on this bike! the 2 on the other side are banana shaped but not cracked yet.

It sounds like they are actually part of the headers then, might be a better bet to look out for a new set of pipes (If i can ever get those bolts off!) I have a mate who is a pretty handy welder so i will send him a pic this week and see what he rekons

It's a bit late now but they should have put some spacers on the studs.

The pipes don't look like they're seated properly ?

All the pipes are seated alright at the moment, no gases are leaking.

Not overly impressed with the quality of these downpipes though, a metal divider that was in the collector part has come unstuck and is rattling around but its too big to come out of the exhaust without grinding it open, get endless people coming up to me suggesting that my cam chain tensioner is bust or my headers are leaking etc..
