I bought some new handlebar end Weights for my NC30 and they are the type with the rubber expanding collar.
Is the threaded section in the end of each of the handlebars, that the original bar weight screws into, welded in there or push fit?
The end of my bars are so grubby i can't tell by looking.

the OEM bars have threaded inserts so yeh, push fit.

Mine must be rusted in then....looks like i'll have to drill them out.
Must say though, looking at the Honda parts drawings it doesn't show any inserts at all, but thanks for your help.

hey bud, sorry i must of been in one of my ignorance moods as i skipped over the nc30 bit...can't say for sure on the VFR if it's an insert, i was thinking of the RVF bars...the parts diagram does not show an insert but it definitely has removable ones...its more like a rubber grub with two opposing small bumps on the side which slot into drilled holes in the bars to keep them in place

looking at various VFR handlebar pics, i can't see any drilled holes near the end of the bars and the threaded section looks to be metal so you may be right in that they are welded, bonded or cast in somehow

Standard NC30 bars have a large nut stuffed inside it so you just screw in your new bar ends. A little bit of loc-tite and away you go.

If only it was that easy...lol...and the simple little jobs always seem to be the most toublesome (sometimes).
The bolts that came with my new bar ends are the same thread size but they are not threaded all the way up.
I can't use the old bolts coz the heads are too large to fit inside the new bar ends.
Also...the new bar ends need to sit inside the bars about 1/8 inch and the existing thread inside the stock bars is flush with the end of the bars.
Anyways, i don't mean to write an essay about such a simple little problem

Just a little update...i've drilled into the handlebar two inches so far, and incase anyones interested in a bit of trivia, i can tell you that the handlebars are solid.
So i'm going to drill a 12mm counterbore and weld a little M6 nut 4mm from the end of the bar.
Another job i wish i'de never started. Had to be done though as the original thread was cream crackered anyway.

When I replaced mine I lopped off 5mm off of the bolt and added a spacer to stop the bar end spinning when nipped up. No issues

No tap an die?

Tap the original thread out one size bigger and use a larger bolt on the bar-end.. did this on an NC24 that ripped the bar end off when it dropped

I tried retapping the original thread but not enough metal left for it to be effective.
I've welded a nut in there now so i can use the original M6X50 bolts.

On to the next job now...replacing loom connectors.
