Marks bike - gearbox worries
Hi hope you can put my worries to rest! After a ride last week but if away fine. Weather was good to go out today but the gearbox was really stiff and to start with the gear leaver would not spring back even? Let it warm up a bit and it got better in first two gears but the rest was stiff changing up ok coming down. Linkage is fine, oil is on low mark. All together I did a hundred miles and it was much better but still feels a bit stiff but can't remember what it was like before now! Coming home was a lot better and gears were selecting ok if a bit stiff?
Is this going to be a winter problem or is something playing up?
Hope you can tell me not to worry as Nike went great otherwise and loves the ride. I use semi 10 40 oil is that ok?
Thanks for any answers .

The oil wieght is ok and this might be just one of those things. Try using the gear selector when the engines not running and see how it feels then.
Maybe time for an oil change depending on how many miles you've done
What's the clutch adjustment like.

Hi EC clutch is ok, it was fine last ride and I would imagine it would be ok when engine not running but I would have to test. Gearbox has always been slick so maybe I will have to live with it?

I'd say it's just one those things at least for the mean time.

Took it out this morning but checked the oil first! Gulp nothing in the window!! Took it out and it seemed a lot better but I can't remember how it was before! But changed gear ok and I am a lot happier! Just hope didn't cause any wear with low oil, still went like a rocket and a smile on my face! Thank you for your support!

Re: Marks bike - gearbox worries
If you let an engine get low on oil it tends to start burning it faster .... I think that makes sense
When the oil gets low I guess it has to work harder so maybe it gets hotter and gets lost through the crankcase breathers. Usually if you top it up it doesn't use so much.
Anyway, I doubt you've done any damage

Yes I thought if it had really gone down to a dangerouse level the light would have come on? Was thinking about when I do oil change to use fully synthetic but dont know if it is worth it? I always use to treat them with slick 50 until clutch slip on my cbr 1000 that I never got rid of even after another oil change and set of clutch plates!

DON'T USE FULLY SYNTHETIC OIL
The bikes were designed to run semi syth, the clutch may well slip if you use it.
