i have an NC30 that im turning into a race bike, but im stumped with a prob.
when i blip the throttle it wont go over 5500rpm, ive tryed the resistor at the cdi....no joy, i re connected the speedo cable....no joy, ive took out the lobe in the speedo....no joy.
is this an electrical fault or could this be a prob with the carbs? pilot or main jets maybe?

Hi,
I'd guess this is most definitely an electrical problem.
Thanks

While there is a slight chance that it's a fueling problem, seeing as IIRC 5500 is where it's meant to missfire if you remove the speedo I'd say it's electronic.
Have you cut the loom down or is it still original?

When you say you 'took out the lobe in the speedo', do you mean the thin metal tab attached to the wheel under the speedo needle? Did you remove the PCB board that has the hall sensors?

def sounds like the 180kmh restrictor gone wrong.
the easiest way may be to stick in a resistor.
Dont know where the post is, have a search as its been brought up very recently.

You need to make sure the speedo is plugged into the loom properly. This is electrical for sure...
you can buy a box to fool the CDI or solder in a resistor - our own Leopard Pagan on here does an idiot giude and bits for good money..

what jets etc are you running ,just out of curiousity ,and what else have you done to the bike ?
to be honest it sounds like an electrical problem more than anything else,if you want to try a different cdi,m max box or just want an extra pair of eyes to look over what you have done sure drop me a message and i'll call over, your a mate of johnny doran aren't you ?

try the other resistor or i have an mmax box you can try (same thing really)
ref johnnyd, never knew he became a dad,and to a girl, thats the end of his life then,no more racing for him and nothing but dolls for her,i'll have to get in toush with him to congratulate (commiserate) him

rite, tryed:- two different looms, an m-max box, different sparkplugs, different coils, two different cdi's. bike is still skittish round 5500rpm and7500rpm upwards, plugs are producing a weak yellowish spark - could this be the regulator or (dare i say it) the generator?
or even something stupid like weak battery or carbs needing set-up?
