Forward engine mountings sheared :(

Stripped my latest purchase right down yesterday and removed the frame. I was surprised to find the fwd engine mountings on the cylinder head sheared :o both of them :o :o
The bike has been down the road but there is no indication of front impact, which would cause this problem.

Is it common on these 400`s or have I just been unlucky?
The net result is a fwd cylinder head or it might be easier to pick up an engine.

Any feedback is appreciated.
cheers

it's a regular thing i'm afraid.I take mine to an engineering company to have them welded back on.

Or I could sell you another engine.

whats the base metal of the casting???? anyone know???

I could get them welded on at work. The thread needs cleaned out (I havent checked the bolt yet but is a 14mm fine?)and maybe a helicoil fitted on one side. When we weld alloy or castings at work we need to heat treat them to bring them back to the materials original condtion(depending on the material)
But I will look into it, as like I said the engine run nice!

cheers guys, these forums are a wealth of information !

As others have said its more common that you may think. A front ender is a safe bet to break at least one, a side slide can also do it - must have been a fair old drop and i would say its more likely a front end at sometime in its life. Not the end of the world though, motors are readily available and cheap, and if the motors out it can be repaired easily.

Hi there,

The thread is an M10x1.25mm. I have a spare front head for an NC30 if it is any good to you?

Thanks
