Hi there, i have a NC30 that has been kicking out of second gear. I have dropped the motor out and opened it up from the bottom, taken the oil pump out and now i can see the gears none of the gears look particularly worn, what else could the problem be?? I have been looking through some of the older posts to find similar problems, but none seem to be able to help.

One more thing, is it necessary to split the lower half of the crank case to get at the box or is there an easier and simpler method??

all help is much appreciated

Ian

Jumping out of gear usually means the dogs on the gears have lost the very slight hooked profile. Without the hook profile the dogs will slip out of mesh under load. You have to split the cases to remove shafts if gears need to be changed.
