Hi guys.

Took my RVF to the bike shop today... Only just made it though as it wouldn't start, even trying to bump start it for 1/2 a mile (argh!) then it finally did (croakily). The bike shop changed the vacuum pipe, as I mentioned that it might be causing the issue, but said the only issue they could see was that it was a fuel pipe fitted where a vacuum pipe should be... Would that make a big difference and possibly be causing my issues?

Secondly, they said it had no fuel... Which is an outrage as since I've had it I've done just under 200 miles and have already had to fill the tank up twice (I assume with the mph converter fitted to the speedo it reads in miles now). They said maybe it's got a leak, but I find that hard to believe as there was never a smell of fuel or trace of a leak on the floor... Could it be running super rich? That's a serious overuse of fuel

So really I have a super thirsty bike and still don't know if the problem is fixed, meaning I'll have to risk riding off somewhere and getting stranded lol... Bad times

Always check the fuel first I can't comment on an RVF tank but my NC30 will drink fuel at that rate if I thrash it!

how much fuel did you put in when you 'filled the tank' ?

Put £15 worth - right to the top - indeed "filled it up". Just puzzled me as I've only been to Basingstoke and back which is about 15 miles, and taken a couple of trips to town, about 2 miles.

Oh well.

Do you let the bike idle before riding it, first thing in the morning?

If I idle/warm up the bike in the morning for a couple minutes, My milage from a full tank will go from around 200km's to 170km's.

Probably worse now with the bigger jets.

Well 200 miles = about 2 tanks worth of fuel in my book but a quick look in your tank will tell you if you have any fuel or not

As for the fuel/vacume pipe, was the fuel pipe that was fitted the soft type of fuel pipe or the stiffer type? if its the stiffer of the two then it should be ok but id still change it for a proper vacume pipe. If it was the soft type then yes that would cause an issue.

So how is it running now you have it back? If its still not right then id be looking at the carbs as correct me if im wrong but you've done the following havent you,

Tested the electrical system
Changed the plugs
Changed the vacume pipe
Checked the airbox and intake side of things to make sure everything is how it should be

If you've done all that then it can only be carbs, from what i remember the bike was standing for some time previous to you buying it wasnt it?

Yes, I will just have to check the tank more often... It was weird though - the tank was empty but I hadn't yet switched to reserve... but that's the least of my worries - I'll just fill up more often!

Yeah Tony, it was the floppy kind of pipe they took out and replaced - good news then!

I'm hoping to take it for a long old ride today to see if it's better... But you are correct - to check the carbs if it's still playng up will be the last thing to check. Fingers crossed all is sorted now though...

I re-set the trip every time i fill up then start looking to fill up around the 170 - 200 km mark

Em, just check some cowboy hasnt done the HRC mod to your fuel tap, and turn the fuel off on the tap when you park it up for more than a few mins.
if it seems better that way then replace your tap.

check your oil level too and isnt full of fuel due to a leaky "modded" tap

what sort of MPH converter have you got, is it a face insert in the clock or does it go inline with the cable?
