Any idea what this is, it was plugged in the loom, at the back of the speedo, leaving the 3 pin plug to the speedo disconnected, I guess it's a derestrictor box of some description?

Most likely a speedo sensor bypass so that the rear cylinder ignition cut does not occur when road speed exceeds 112MPH (180kph).
